Why fleet AdBlue faults cost more than the repair
A van off the road costs money every hour it sits. Missed deliveries, rescheduled jobs, hired replacements, customer complaints. The AdBlue repair bill is often the smallest part of the problem.
Main dealer booking queues make it worse. A week's wait for a diagnostic slot means a week of lost revenue from that vehicle. Then there is the diagnostic tree approach: swap a sensor, wait for the code to return, try the next part. Multiple visits, multiple invoices, multiple days off the road.
A mobile specialist arrives at your location, diagnoses with live data, and fixes on-site in a single visit. The van goes back to work the same day — or the same night.
Common fleet AdBlue faults
Fleet vans cover high mileage in stop-start conditions. These are the faults we see most often across Transit, Sprinter, Crafter and Ducato fleets.
NOx sensor degradation (P20EE, P2200, P229F)
NOx sensors drift over time, especially on high-mileage vans doing urban delivery work. The ECU logs a fault, starts the countdown, and eventually limits the vehicle to limp mode. This is the most common fleet AdBlue fault across all makes.
Dosing injector crystallisation (P20BA, P207F)
Short journeys and idle time cause AdBlue to crystallise around the injector nozzle. Fleet vans that do a lot of stop-start city work are particularly prone. Sometimes the injector can be cleaned; sometimes it needs replacing.
Tank heater failure in cold weather
AdBlue freezes at minus eleven degrees. The tank heater prevents this. When the heater element fails — common on Sprinter, Crafter and Ducato — the fluid freezes overnight and the system faults on first start. A fleet of ten vans parked outside will all fault on the same cold morning.
Contaminated or low-quality fluid
Bulk-purchased AdBlue that has been stored too long or contaminated with water causes crystallisation throughout the system. One bad batch can affect every vehicle in the fleet.
SCR catalyst efficiency loss (P204F, P20E8)
High-mileage fleet vans eventually see catalyst degradation. The ECU logs an efficiency code and starts the countdown. This is the most expensive repair and the point at which software becomes a practical consideration.
Wiring and connector corrosion
Fleet vans work in harsh conditions. Salt, water ingress and vibration corrode connectors on NOx sensors and heater circuits. Diagnosis catches this before you pay for a part that is not actually faulty.
What we check on every fleet callout
Every vehicle gets the same full diagnostic process. For multi-vehicle callouts, we work through the fleet systematically and report findings per vehicle.
Fault code scan per vehicle
Full OBD and manufacturer-level code read. Common fleet codes: P20EE, P20E8, P204F, P207F, P20BA, P2200, P229F. Each vehicle's codes are recorded separately.
Live NOx sensor data
Upstream and downstream NOx readings compared in real time. Sensor drift is common on high-mileage fleet vans and shows clearly in the live data.
Dosing pressure and injector condition
AdBlue line pressure and injector duty cycle monitored to separate a blocked nozzle from a pump fault. Crystallisation is visible on inspection.
Heater circuit and wiring integrity
Resistance testing on tank and line heaters. Connector condition checked for corrosion — a frequent fleet issue.
Fluid quality check
AdBlue concentration and contamination assessment. If one vehicle has bad fluid, we recommend checking the whole fleet batch.
Countdown and adaptation status
Remaining starts and adaptation history read per vehicle. This tells us how urgent each repair is and helps you prioritise if multiple vans are affected.
Fleet repair pricing
Every repair is quoted at a fixed price before work starts. For multi-vehicle callouts, each vehicle is quoted individually. No fix, no fee on the agreed outcome.
Written warranty on every repair. We provide a summary of work done per vehicle for your fleet records.
- Diagnosis + reset or forced regen: From £249 Per vehicle. Code clearance, adaptation reset, SCR regeneration where no physical part has failed.
- NOx sensor replacement: Fixed price after diagnosis Per vehicle. High-volume job on Transit, Sprinter, Crafter fleets. Usually completed same-visit.
- Injector clean or replacement: Fixed price after diagnosis Per vehicle. Crystallisation can sometimes be cleaned on-site. Replacement quoted if needed.
- Tank heater or pump module: Fixed price after diagnosis Per vehicle. Tank-integrated heaters on Sprinter, Crafter, Ducato require more access time.
- Multi-vehicle callout: Fixed price after diagnosis We quote each vehicle individually. Callout efficiency improves when multiple vehicles are at the same location.
Software for fleet vehicles
When an SCR catalyst has failed on a high-mileage fleet van and the replacement cost exceeds the vehicle's remaining working value, a software solution can disable the AdBlue monitoring and return the van to service immediately.
This matters for fleet compliance, vehicle disposal and resale.
Software is path two. We diagnose and repair first. If a sensor swap or injector clean will fix the van properly, that is what we quote.
Any software change that disables AdBlue or SCR monitoring is supplied for off-road, competition or export use only, and the customer declares any modifications. It is never offered as a road-legal fix. Read our disclaimer.
How we work with fleet operators
6am–9pm, 7 days a week
Fleet vans often cannot be taken off the road during working hours. We attend early mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays. Call 0203 038 8555 any time.
On-site at your yard, depot or roadside
Fully mobile. We come to wherever the vehicle is — your depot, a customer site, or the hard shoulder. No need to recover the van to a workshop.
Per-vehicle reporting
For every vehicle we work on, we provide a record of the fault found, the work carried out, parts fitted, and warranty details. This feeds into your fleet maintenance records.
Account billing — ask us
For regular fleet customers, we can discuss account billing arrangements. Call us to discuss what works for your operation.
Priority for returning customers
Fleet operators who use us regularly get priority scheduling. When your driver calls at six in the morning with an AdBlue countdown, we know the vehicle, the fleet, and the history.
Vehicles we see every week
Ford Transit and Transit Custom are the most common fleet AdBlue jobs we handle. The 2.0 EcoBlue engine uses a NOx sensor and dosing injector setup that we see faults on at high mileage.
Mercedes Sprinter and Vito fleets are the second highest volume. The tank-integrated heater on the Sprinter is a known weak point. VW Crafter shares the same platform and the same faults.
We also work regularly on Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Relay, Fiat Ducato, Vauxhall Vivaro, Vauxhall Movano and Iveco Daily fleets. If it is a diesel van with AdBlue, we have seen the fault before.
